The 15th Annual Guru Nanak Gurpurab Radiothon Raises $160,000 for Local Families in Need

CJMR’s 15th annual Radiothon in support of Seva Food Bank was another successful effort. This year’s Guru Nanak Gurpurab Radiothon & Food Drive raised $160,000 and 30,000 pounds in food donations that will benefit local families facing food insecurity.

Over the past 15 years, Seva Food Bank has made it a priority to ensure that families experiencing poverty in the community have access to food.

In recent years, food insecurity has been on the rise. One in five Canadians has skipped paying a bill to afford groceries in the past year. Adults under the age of 55 were four times more likely to delay payments for their cars, credit cards and electricity bills to purchase food. In addition, Food Banks Mississauga released its annual Impact Report, which reported a record-breaking 503,705 visits last year. The report revealed that food bank visits per household increased from an average of three to five times per year in 2019 to ten times per year today.

This year’s Radiothon was particularly important because families are in greater need now than ever. With more families frequenting Food Banks in Mississauga and across Canada, there has been a significant emphasis on having an adequate supply to meet the demand.

The 2025 Guru Nanak Gurpurab Radiothon and Food Drive served as a powerful reminder of the impact collective action can have. Generous donations from listeners, sponsors and community leaders will directly support SEVA’s programs, helping to provide nutritious meals and essential food supplies to families in need.
