2024 Seva Food Bank Radiothon Raises Over $160,000 for Local Families in Need
CJMR’s 2024 Radiothon in support of Seva Food Baank was a resounding success! Broadcast live on CJMR 1320, more than $160,000 – and over 35,000 pounds in food donations – were raised to support local families facing food insecurity.
Since 2010, Seva Food Bank has helped ensure equitable access to safe, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food to people experiencing poverty in the community.
This year’s Radiothon was particularly important, as food bank usage in Mississauga has increased by 55% from the previous year – and has the fastest-growing rate of food bank usage in Ontario, with one in three food bank patrons being children.
In light of these numbers, the City of Mississauga recently passed a motion to declare food insecurity an emergency, underscoring the urgent need for continued support.
The 2024 Seva Food Bank Radiothon was a powerful reminder of the impact collective action can have. Generous donations from listeners, sponsors, and community leaders will directly support SEVA’s programs, helping to provide nutritious meals and essential food supplies to families in need.
Special thanks to our CJMR 1320 hosts, including Dilbag Chawla, Arshdeep Chawla, Kuldip Deepak, Dr. Balwinder Singh, Sandeep Kaur, Sukhdev Gil, and Navraj Grewal (absent Davinder Bains). The entire CJMR team, including Station Manager Hollie Taylor, with Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish, added their voices to be an inspiring beacon for our listeners – who showed their support in a big way!
With continued community support, Seva will be able to provide even more assistance in the year ahead. Find more ways to give today – and year-round – at www.sevafoodbank.com.
