The province confirmed Thursday that it is breaking up Peel Region.
According to a source who is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter, Ontario Premier Doug Ford intends to dissolve Peel Region within three years. The #TorontoStar first broke the news on Wednesday evening. Although the decision has been approved by the cabinet, there are concerns about costs.
#Mississauga, a city in #Ontario, has long desired to separate from Peel Region and become independent. Premier #DougFord has hinted that he will allow this separation, leading to a potentially contentious "divorce" between Mississauga and #Brampton. Mississauga Mayor #BonnieCrombie expressed her pleasure at the premier's statement, believing it fulfills a promise made to her and former Mayor Hazel McCallion.
The Daily Bread Food Bank hosted a mayoral debate in Etobicoke with five candidates. The theme was "From Surviving to Thriving: Tackling Toronto's Affordability Crisis." The candidates discussed food insecurity, affordable housing, and making the TTC more reliable. The event was briefly interrupted by a heckler. Despite the incident, candidates expressed support for peaceful protest.
There could be quite several Toronto mayoral candidates knocking on your door over the next six weeks.
